Our Team Members

Dave Jones, CPACP

Owner, Certified Professional Animal Care Provider
Dave grew up on a farm with dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits–and even a chameleon! Today he is more familiar to our clients as “Uncle Dave”, and we often hear just mentioning his name to our client dogs gets them excited, even before they walk in!  Dave was trained in pet facility management and mentored at two pet boarding facilities in Ohio before relocating to New Mexico: Country Lane Pet Resort (traditional boarding) and Dogtown Cincinnati (cage free boarding).

Joy Jones, CPACP

Owner, Administrator, and Certified Professional Animal Care Provider
Joy grew up in the city of Cincinnati, Ohio with a series of dogs, cats, birds, hamsters and aquariums. Joy’s urban fantasy novel, Indigo, was published in 2016, and today she also serves as the Publisher for the Your Pet Space online magazine.  Joy trained in pet facility management and was mentored at two pet boarding facilities in Ohio before relocating to New Mexico: Country Lane Pet Resort (traditional boarding) and Dogtown Cincinnati (cage free boarding).

Jessica Smith

Front Desk Assistant, First Aid and CPR Certified Dog Handler and Managing Editor of our online magazine
Having been raised in a household full of dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, and all things furry, Jessica’s love of animals has only grown over the years. She is currently volunteering for Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary in her free time when she isn’t out and about with her ridiculous pit bull mix, Annabel Lee, or taking care of her remarkably ancient guinea pig, Moose. She is also putting her literature degree to use by working as an editor for a local online magazine, Independent Noise. While she has no plans for the future, she knows that it will be filled with fur and fiction galore.

Alyssa De La O

First Aid and CPR Certified Dog Handler, Front Desk Assistant
Aly attends New Mexico State University, studying Animal Science with an emphasis in Companion Animals. She also works with Guide Dogs for the Blind and the local high school FFA programs by raising young puppies and preparing them for advanced Guide Dog training.

Gerry Johnson

First Aid and CPR Certified Dog Handler
Gerry’s kids are of the 4-legged variety, especially Peaches, her apricot and white pit bull. Since 2013, she has volunteered at Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary. In addition to learning about different dog breeds and their personalities, Gerry also loves playing tennis and reading.

Doug White

Front Desk Assistant, Dog Handler & Associate Editor of Our Online Magazine
Doug has worked in customer service for over 24 years, with 13 years of that experience being at Chuck E. Cheese’s. (And, yes, he wore the mouse costume throughout that adventure).  He has four little four-legged munchkins in his family named Peeta, Clyde, Oreo, and Peggy Sue.  After adopting Clyde from Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary in 2013, he began volunteering for the organization.  This experience ignited a passion for learning about different dog breeds and individual dogs’ varying personalities.  Doug is a huge country music fan, an avid reader of sci-fi/fantasy/horror, and a (very) amateur gardener and hiker.

Jessica Phillips

Front Desk Assistant, First Aid and CPR Certified Dog Handler
Jessica grew up with cats and dogs on different sides of the family and enjoyed taking care of and playing with all of them. Later on, her parents had water monitors and a boa, giving her insight into the nature and beauty of our cold-blooded friends. Since she had cats in her own home, working at Your Pet Space has taught her a great deal more about various dog breeds, which has been an amazing and fun experience.

Ernie Hammons

First Aid and CPR Certified Dog Handler
Ernie is recently retired, having served 13 years as a police officer. He is a lifetime dog lover and owner, and his current dog child, Lola, is a 5 year old American Pitbull Terrier. Lola loves car rides and visiting all the other doggies at Your Pet Space. Like the men’s hair commercial says, “He’s not just a Your Pet Space employee, he’s also a client!”
